Learn about Advance Ashburton

Advance Ashburton Community Foundation has been formed as a perpetual charitable trust dedicated to benefiting the Ashburton region. It is registered as a charity under the Charities Act with the number of CC28482.
Donated funds are invested and the Foundation distributes the income to worthwhile community organisations and causes, after allowing for inflation. It takes time for funds to grow, but the numerous groups will benefit from the Foundation – from improving health and education and caring for the elderly; to protecting the environment and beautifying our surroundings; to assistance with art, sport, culture and other worthy charitable causes.

It is an independent, volunteer driven, charitable organisation that aims to strengthen the community.
It enables people to be involved in the growth and development of their community as donors.
It can build permanent assets and resources that will benefit a community for generations.

Covers the same area as the Ashburton District Council.
Trustees are all volunteers. They are respected people with a history of working in the community.
Appointment system in place for trustees to ensure high quality people will always be appointed.
Permanence – we will be around for generations.
Accountability – we are answerable to the Community in which we operate. Financial Accounts are audited annually.

The Ashburton region is a special place. We have beautiful mountains, lakes, rivers and plains. We have a wonderful community with many dedicated groups caring for others.
The future of Ashburton as a caring community lies in our social structures, in recreation, in the environment, sport and arts: everything that makes a community healthy happy and safe.
Now you can help make that future better. Through Advance Ashburton Community Foundation, together we can make the Ashburton region a better place to live.

Advance Ashburton Community Foundation has established a General Fund and will establish several smaller funds for special purposes.

The Trust Board has flexibility in granting money from the General Fund to a wide range of groups.

Here is how you can help something important to you. A Special Trust of $50,000 or more can be established within the Foundation. The money granted from the income from the Special Trust can then be put to the specific purpose(s) chosen by you.
These special trusts can be attributed to a family or individual. If you would like an even closer involvement, you or your solicitor may wish to become Advisory Trustees

Advance Ashburton Community Foundation Trust Board will be charged with choosing those groups best qualified to receive assistance from the Foundation's earnings.
Grants will be made in response to applications as funds are available. As well as calling for applications from established organisations, the Trust Board will also make grants available to initiate projects considered important to the Ashburton District.
All grants made must be for charitable purposes, as defined in legislation and law, in order for the Foundation to maintain its charitable status.

We believe that people who have enjoyed the benefits of living in the Ashburton District may like to give something back to the community.
You can even nominate what your money will be used for, and a Special Trust can be established in your family or individual name.
The funds are managed by a professional investment advisory group. Your own solicitor has all the detailed information about how you can become part of the Foundation. Donations made during your lifetime qualify for 1/3 cash back from the Inland Revenue Department up to a limit of your taxable income.
Gifts may be made anonymously if you wish.
All gifts to the Foundation are free of gift duty.
Giving can be in the form of cash, investments or property.

Our Foundation is founded on trust and survives on the generosity of local donors giving for local causes.
Our Foundation helps donors achieve their charitable goals in their community.
Our Foundation has a leadership role in building social capital - the glue that holds communities together.
